چکیده

Electronic System Level (ESL) power estimation is executed in early design phases to avoid expensive redesigns. In this paper we concentrate on the evaluation of an existing ESL power estimation methodology for the modeling of future platforms, with respect to applicability, flexibility and reusability. Two industrial design cases are investigated. In the first one, an existing mobile communication platform supporting GSM paging burst is discussed to elaborate the modeling approach in detail. Based on this, a novel platform for paging burst is modeled and analyzed. The highly flexible and reusable modeling capabilities are validated. This shows that the methodology is applicable to the what-if analysis of HW/SW architecture in early design phases.

A Model-Driven Approach for Hybrid Power Estimation in Embedded Systems Design

As technology scales for increased circuit density and performance, the management of power consumption in system-on-chip (SoC) is becoming critical. Today, having the appropriate electronic system level (ESL) tools for power estimation in the design flow is mandatory. The main challenge for the design of such dedicated tools is to achieve a better tradeoff between accuracy and speed. This pape...

High Level Power Estimation and Reduction Techniques for Power Aware Hardware Design

The unabated continuation of the Moore's law has allowed the doubling of the number of transistors per unit area of a silicon die every 2 years or so. At the same time, an increasing demand on consumer electronics and computing equipments to run sophisticated applications has led to an unprecedented complexity of hardware designs. These factors have necessitated the abstraction level of design-...

The ODYSSEY approach to early simulation-based equivalence checking at ESL level using automatically generated executable transaction-level model

Design technology is expected to rise to electronic system-level (ESL). This necessitates new techniques and tools for synthesizing ESL designs and for verifying them before and after ESL synthesis. A promising verification strategy for future very complex designs is to initially verify the design at the highest level of abstraction, and then check the equivalence of the lower level automatical...
